What
We Do
The Capital Medical Society is the
professional membership organization for physicians, a ready resource for
information, support and networking. It is the local voice
for physicians. Physician advocacy is our primary mission.
Our members come from Leon, Jefferson, Gadsden and Wakulla
counties.
What We Do for Our Physicians
- Provide membership to all licensed physicians
in our area
- Provide continuing medical education
- Work cooperatively
with the Florida Medical Association, the American Medical
Association and medical specialty
societies
- Promote the advancement of medical knowledge
and technology available to physicians to better serve patients.
- Liaison with public health departments regarding
public health issues
- Communicate information through our newsletter,
Cap Scan
- Offer monthly membership meetings
- Participate in legislative
issues that effect physicians and patient care. For a Legislative

Medical Association website.
- Interact
with governmental and regulatory agencies on behalf of
physicians
- Maintain active media relations
- Encourage members to volunteer
in the community, providing them opportunities to do so
- Discount
service for pagers, voicemail and airtime
- Employment service
for physician offices looking to hire clinical and business
staff
What We Do in the Community
- Provide a Physician
Referral and Information Service to the public
- Champion ways to increase
access to quality healthcare in our
community
- Serve as advocates for patients by pursuing
high standards in medical care, education and ethics
- Sponsor
the We Care Network, through which 325 volunteer physician
specialists donate specialty medical care to
low-income, uninsured patients. Tallahassee Memorial Hospital,
Capital Regional Medical
Center and area labs, imaging centers, home health
and medical equipment companies all donate care as well. The We
Care Network has donated more than $35 million in specialty
care
to residents of
Leon, Wakulla, Gadsden and Jefferson County since 1992.
- Coordinate
Project Dental Care, through which 48 volunteer dentists
provide extractions and fillings for
low income, uninsured patients from Leon County. In 2007, dentists donated more than $95,000 in dental care.
- Through the CMS
Foundation,
provide grants to healthcare related charities that can
assist with our mission
to increase access to healthcare in our community
- Participate in economic development
initiatives sponsored by the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce
and other
community groups
- Support the Big Bend Regional Healthcare Information Organization,
a local initiative to electronically
share patient information
What We Do for Physician Office Staff
- Offer a monthly “Lunch & Learn” seminar
series. Pre-registration is required
- Provide technical and
consultative support to office staff
- Serve as a communication
liaison between physician offices
