CMS Set to Make Changes for 2011 Meeting Schedule
By Karen Wendland, Executive Director
The CMS Board of Governors and our CME Committee have decided to make changes in our meeting schedule come 2011. These changes are in response to member requests and in response to the attendance at different meetings. We want to offer meetings that you want to attend.
Another important change — the CME Committee has a new Chair as of 2011. Dr. Christie Sain has agreed to serve as Chair and she has added many new members to the CME Committee. We thank Dr. Tracey Hellgren for her service as our CME Chair the past 5 years. She has done an absolutely fantastic job for you and CMS. We will not be doing our Annual CME Conference in January. Instead we will return to a monthly Membership Meeting, on the third Tuesday of the month. At that meeting we will install our new CMS President – Tracey Hellgren, M.D. The topic for the evening will be timely and what is on the mind of every physician and their staff... what changes to expect in health care in 2011. We will invite practice administrators to this meeting.
In March, we will continue the tradition of our holding our Celebration Awards Dinner on the last Thursday in March, in honor of Doctors' Day. This year the dinner will be on March 31st.
We will hold our regular Membership Meetings at Goodwood Conference Center on the 3rd Tuesday in April and May. The CME Committee is finalizing the programs for these meetings, too.
In June, we will offer our second "CMS Family Night" where you can invite your spouse and all your children! We are on a new 3-year rotation between Doctor-Daughter Dinner, Doctor-Son Dinner and CMS Family Night. In 2008, we had our first CMS Family Night at the Antique Car Museum and it was very well received. This year we are going to Doak Campbell Stadium for an evening of fun activities for the entire family. Make plans to attend!
How does CMS select topics and speakers?
The Capital Medical Society takes very serious its role as a CME provider to its members. CME programs are considered a member benefit and we have a CME Committee that meets regularly and carefully plans our CME Programs each year.
It is the policy of the Capital Medical Society to provide high quality CME programs to its members and other healthcare providers, as it deems appropriate.
How does the selection process take place for our CME Programs? Twice a year, in Cap Scan, we ask our members if you would like to do a CME program in the upcoming year. The CME Committee meets twice a year and selects the five or six CME programs we will do during the upcoming year. The Committee reviews the CME programs during the past three years, to avoid duplication. As potential speakers, the CME Committee looks to our newly arrived physicians who bring interesting perspectives from their residency training.
So this is the time of year that we ask you to please submit a proposal to our CME Committee if you would like to present a CME Program in 2011.
As many of you have probably realized, it is our intention to tap into the wealth of training and expertise right here at home and ask our own CMS physicians to give our CME talks.
After each CME program, we give participants an evaluation, so that we can use your suggestions to plan future meetings. Your feedback is valuable to us. If you have comments or suggestions, please contact me or Rosalie Carlin at 877-9018.
