CMS Membership
Membership in the Capital Medical Society is
open only to physicians in Leon, Jefferson, Wakulla and Gadsden
Counties. To join the Capital Medical Society,
please contact us at (850) 877-9018 or download
our Membership Application (this is an Adobe Acrobat PDF
file).
An Invitation to Join the Capital Medical Society
Membership is available to all qualified allopathic (M.D.)
and osteopathic (D.O.) physicians in our four counties: Leon,
Gadsden, Jefferson and Wakulla.
The Capital Medical Society maintains a joint-membership
policy, meaning that in order to join CMS, physicians must
also join the Florida Medical Association. We believe we
are most effective as an advocacy organization for physicians
when we act in partnership with our statewide organization.

Membership Benefits
- Physician Referral
Service - Capital Medical Society makes approximately
2,000 referrals per year to member physicians.
- Physician
Information Service - The Medical Society answers
inquiries about member physicians' medical backgrounds
and board certifications
- Advocacy in the Legislature – CMS
works closely with the FMA to pass legislation that
protects physicians
and their patients. We also keep your office informed
of any new legislation passed that would impact your practice.
For a Legislative Update, go to the Florida
Medical Association website.
- Membership Meetings - An excellent way to keep in touch
with your colleagues and hear guest speakers on issues
in medicine today.
- Family Activities - Two elegant dinner
functions are an opportunity to invite your spouse or guest.
We also
host
a Doctor/Child or Doctor/Family Dinner and Newcomer Reception. Network
with colleagues and spend time with your family at the
same time.
- CME Programs - CMS co-sponsors a variety
of seminars throughout the year, including all CME programs
required
for members.
- Political Action – CMS, through
FLAMPAC, advises physicians which candidates support
issues important to organized
medicine.
- Employment Service – We are
listed in the Tallahassee Yellow Pages under employment
agencies
and receive resumes
from people interested in working in physician office.
There is no charge to members.
- Peer Review Process - The Internal Affairs
Committee reviews formal complaints and helps members resolve
their
differences
with patients. Nonmembers, without this benefit, risk
direct DBPR action.
- We Care
Network - Thanks to the volunteer
work of many Medical Society physician members, needy patients
have
a chance to seek specialty medical care through the We
Care
Network. Physician volunteers receive well-deserved recognition
for their service.
- Cap Scan – An award-winning,
monthly newsletter includes information you need to
know about issues affecting
your practice. Members are welcome to submit articles.
- Committees - The Medical Society has active
committees, which address a variety of issues including
legal, CME,
legislative, access to care, media relations and membership
services.
Your colleagues are working hard for you.

the names of physician members to organizations and civic
groups
in need of guest speakers on medical topics.
